Nom

Slug Form

Nom is a tiny, slimy lizard-like creature whose body is almost entirely taken up by a big, hungry mouth. It's a pale green colour with yellow spots and a single tooth popping out of its gums. It slides along the ground and eats food with its giant mouth.

Gameplay notes

Nom is a starter (slug level) creature and the only one that will be made for the prototype game this semester. Being a slug level character, he is immensely weak and very small. He cannot carry eggs and his attacks do little damage. A single hit from an enemy above slug level kills Nom, so players generally aim to eat and grow as quickly as possible whilst in this stage. This stage gives the player a feeling of weakness, they can then compare this to the feeling of power they achieve when they reach the third level of growth.

As Nom is very weak and aiming to destroy these weak characters before they have a chance to grow is a valid tactic. However, other, higher level characters on the team may aim to protect their slug-level team mates until they have the chance to get stronger.


Animation

Emerge

Mouth opens quickly and tongue wobbles about.

NOTE: Being the first stage creature, Nom will hopefully pop out of an egg and perform this animation.


Walk

Nom has no legs and has to squirm along the ground to move. As he walks, his tail wags one way and his head moves toward the opposite direction. This is reversed and repeated.


Eat

Similar to the emerge animation but with less movement in the tongue. After the mouth closes it contorts and moves around in a chewing motion before stopping briefly and opening again for a quick 'burp'.


Death

Nom opens his mouth wide before falling to the side with his tongue hanging down loosely.
